BYU 47, Tulsa 55

My brother Brian came over to my house and we watched the game on my projector screen. The game was actually televised on a station other than the MTN, so I could watch it. The MTN is a channel that isn't widely spread throughout the nation and I'm one of the lucky ones that doesn't have access to it. This game wasn't affected by that though.
The game started off with each team scoring right after the other. It was an all-offense game. The tough part was that Tulsa would score in 1-2 play drives. BYU would work their offense in a normal fashion and they would finish in 8-9 play drives. Toward the end of the first half, BYU got the ball back and pulled ahead by a field goal. I thought, this is the end of the scoring.
When the teams came out in the second half, there wasn't as much scoring, but there was still a lot. BYU was again plagued by penalties and turnovers. That's again what caused the loss. BYU, again, almost pulled it off toward the end of the game, but fell short.
My brother and I enjoyed watching the game, but we certainly hoped for more. This put BYU at 1-2 for the season. I still believe that this season will be okay. Conference play now starts and we'll see the true test of the conference with Air Force.

BYU 17, UCLA 27

Devin, Derek, Eric and I all began our journey to LA by car. We made our first stop in Vegas and stayed in Palace Station Hotel. We arrived early enough to enjoy Las Vegas or at least the little there is to enjoy there. We headed to Fremont street to check things out there. We stayed out pretty late, but not too late. We still needed to make a long drive in the morning.

When we woke up in the morning, we enjoyed a breakfeast buffet before we took off. It was a good buffet, but you know how Vegas is with the prices, etc.

Off to LA to enjoy what was there. We stayed with some relatives of Devin's and it was totally worth the stay. They were very hospitable and made sure we had everything we needed, plus more. Wonderful food and a spacious house. It was incredible!

We spent the night there and the game was the next day. We drove part way to the stadium, then met up with the family we were staying with. We all carpooled closer to the stadium.

The game was definitely worth it. BYU fell early and was trailing 20-3 at one point. The first half was rough as a BYU fan. Max Hall experienced a "young game" of his career. He was blindsided on one play and threw an interception as well. The interception came on a closing drive on the game where BYU could have pulled ahead. The score was 20-17 and BYU was in the redzone ready to score. An interception gave UCLA the ball back and the defense couldn't stop them from scoring again. The biggest thing that made BYU lose was the penalties. There were too many penalties and turnovers for BYU to battle through this one. There was also an interception made by Kehl that wasn't given to BYU. At the stadium, we saw the perfect view for the play, but the refs didn't get the same view. It was unfortunate, but there were too many mistakes to recover from this one.

BYU made the game close enough that it was definitely worth the trip. The next day we drove straight home to Orem, UT.

BYU 20, Arizona 7

My Brother Kirk, my Dad, and I all rode our motorcycles to the game. Brttany P. came with me to the game too. The weather was fantastic and it was perfect for us to be outside enjoying the fresh air. We rode the shoulder of University Avenue, all the way to the credit union across the street where we parked.
Opening Day! College Football in the air! Emotions running high! What a great day!
There was a planned “Blue-Out” for this game where all of the fans were wearing blue. Well, all of the fans were supposed to be wearing blue. My brother called out numerous fans that were obviously not “Fully Invested”. Hopefully they will learn their lesson and wear blue to the next game.
We sat in our seats, getting ready for the game to begin. The players game out and as tradition had it, began the Haka. We were so stoked to finally see our Cougars.
The biggest things for the Cougars were Freshman RB Harvey Unga and our Defense. Bryan Kehl came away with 12 tackles, 2.5 of them for loss.
Max Hall, with his first collegiate start, was very composed and played a very good game. There were a few misfires that fortunately ended incomplete. He threw for over 200 yards and had a TD to Harvey Unga as well as Dennis Pitta.
At half time, 2 Cougar greats had their jerseys retired. #14 Gifford Nielson and #14 Ty Detmer were in attendance and both gave great speeches. Lavell Edwards was also their to recognize them.
The final score of the game was 20-7, but that does not tell the full story of the game. Arizona’s only score came with less than a minute left in the game. Also, BYU had a few other opportunities that would have given them more points. A call on 4th and goal left the Cougars short. There was also a punt formation penalty that was a mistake and the Cougars would have recovered the ball on the Arizona 2 yard line.
Fantastic start to the season for the mighty Cougs of Brigham Young. I will be traveling to Los Angeles next week as the Cougars take on the Bruins of UCLA.
Until next week...

Big Blue Bash

My brother Kirk and I attended the Big Blue Bash in Salt Lake City. We rode our bikes up as it was perfect weather to do so.

As we go there, we found a parking spot and went right in. We were both carrying our mini BYU helmets to have signed while we were there.

We bought our Fully Invested T-shirts and went in to find a seat. We got great seats, near the middle, but a few rows behind the speakers.

After the beginning, we headed back and got some Autographs. The picture above is Max Hall signing my BYU helmet. My helmet now includes Jim McMahon, Brandon Doman, and Max Hall. I still have some QBs to add to it.

We enjoyed the talks that the speakers had to give. Max Hall and Bryan Kehl poked fun at each other and it was enjoyable to listen to. Hall was asking Kehl where he was at practice, cause he didn't see him (implying that the Defense didn't even show up).

Eric Drage and James Dye were the legends at the event. Drage told Hall and Kehl that he expects an 11-1 season.

Overall, it was a great event and it pumped us up for the season. We saw some great highlights and reminisced over the great season we had last year.

Las Vegas Bowl 2006

My Family and I packed up our stuff and headed down to the Las Vegas Bowl for 2006. My Brother Brian and I stayed at the Hilton just off of the strip. It was an okay experience, but I am glad I didn't pay full price for the Hotel. We did enjoy a nice breakfast buffet though.

We arrived the night before the game so that we could walk around Las Vegas for a day. After our buffet, we hit Circus Circus where I got my face painted like a cougar.

At the game, we sat in the endzone around row 30. 16 of us were there as we enjoyed watching the Cougars cook the Ducks of Oregon.

BYU started the game a little rough and I was getting a little worried. However, the defense was shining and continued to do so throughout the entire game.

After the first couple of drives, BYU started to score at will. Jonny Harline (13) proved to the defense that he should have been voted as best Tight End in the nation. He was awarded the MVP for the game. John Beck also had a wonderful game and set a few records.

At the end of the game, my friend and I ran out on the field. We jumped onto the field with about 2 seconds left in the game to try and be some of the first ones out there. We were able to jump around with the team and celebrate. I also listened to Jonny Harline in an interview and had him sign a program afterward.

After the game, we went to another Buffet and then went to bed. We traveled back the next morning feeling great from our victory!
