BYU 20, Arizona 7

My Brother Kirk, my Dad, and I all rode our motorcycles to the game. Brttany P. came with me to the game too. The weather was fantastic and it was perfect for us to be outside enjoying the fresh air. We rode the shoulder of University Avenue, all the way to the credit union across the street where we parked.
Opening Day! College Football in the air! Emotions running high! What a great day!
There was a planned “Blue-Out” for this game where all of the fans were wearing blue. Well, all of the fans were supposed to be wearing blue. My brother called out numerous fans that were obviously not “Fully Invested”. Hopefully they will learn their lesson and wear blue to the next game.
We sat in our seats, getting ready for the game to begin. The players game out and as tradition had it, began the Haka. We were so stoked to finally see our Cougars.
The biggest things for the Cougars were Freshman RB Harvey Unga and our Defense. Bryan Kehl came away with 12 tackles, 2.5 of them for loss.
Max Hall, with his first collegiate start, was very composed and played a very good game. There were a few misfires that fortunately ended incomplete. He threw for over 200 yards and had a TD to Harvey Unga as well as Dennis Pitta.
At half time, 2 Cougar greats had their jerseys retired. #14 Gifford Nielson and #14 Ty Detmer were in attendance and both gave great speeches. Lavell Edwards was also their to recognize them.
The final score of the game was 20-7, but that does not tell the full story of the game. Arizona’s only score came with less than a minute left in the game. Also, BYU had a few other opportunities that would have given them more points. A call on 4th and goal left the Cougars short. There was also a punt formation penalty that was a mistake and the Cougars would have recovered the ball on the Arizona 2 yard line.
Fantastic start to the season for the mighty Cougs of Brigham Young. I will be traveling to Los Angeles next week as the Cougars take on the Bruins of UCLA.
